Team Misfits California Road Trip 2005 - Part 1

"This is the best vacation EVER. I say we turn
around and go home while we're ahead."
- Rob the Travel Nazi

We hadn't even made it through customs at Toronto Pearson airport when this declaration was made. The funny thing is that it was the best vacation ever.

The Beginning and How It Was Meant To Be
What are the chances that seven busy people from various parts of the country simultaneously have the time, money and desire to take a holiday together? Pretty slim, I would say, but somehow, Team Misfits California Road Trip 2005 came together perfectly. For me, the idea of a road trip in California felt right from the very beginning. When Eyebrows asked whether I would be interested going, my immediate reaction was "hell yes!" I am normally the most non-spontaneous stick-in-the-mud, so I was taken aback by my own enthusiastic response.

The group was finalized and the planning phase was soon launched. Through various high-tech mediums like Skype and Yahoo Groups, we organized ourselves to book plane tickets, hotels and a car. Itinerary-wise, nobody had any real opinions on what they wanted to see or do aside from Evilo's request to see trees that were really, really Big. Not Tall, mind you. Nono, they had to be Big. No objections were made, and Big Trees were put onto the schedule along with other whimsical attractions such as The Egg Rock, and Pink Hot Dogs. At the last minute, we even reversed the entire trip in order to be in San Francisco for the Chocolate Festival!

I was surprised at how everything came together without a single argument or compromise. It was just meant to be!
