Observation on Michigan drivers

So I'm here in the States at my company's wind tunnel facility. It's really cool! But what I actually want to talk about are the Michigan drivers. More specifically, the drivers in the area around my company's head engineering office because that's the only area I'm relatively familiar with. Everyone drives at the same speed (the speed limit, no less) with lots of gap in between each vehicle. It's so odd! In Toronto, there are chronic tail gaters, crazy lane changing maniacs and everyone drives as FAST as possible to get to the next red light.

I think the reason for the Michigan driving style is that everyone has a large SUV. I myself drove a large SUV down from Oshawa and I feel so superior from my lofty perch that I am in good humor with all other drivers around me, even though they are just as superior and lofty as I. So my theory is that because everyone feels as happy as a clam and as safe as an ostrich with its head stuck in the sand in their admittedly gas-guzzling SUV, everyone drives considerately and patiently.
